The Groundskeeper is responsible for keeping assigned grounds , playing fields, driveways, parking lots, and building(s) clean, safe, functional, and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established district policies and standards.
The Groundskeeper must maintain all assigned areas in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Maintains athletic fields and playing surfaces in game and practice conditions.
Sets up and lines all athletic fields.
(District and town-owned) for all sports programs.
Operating motor equipment in the performance of his/her duties.
Trains and supervises other personnel in the performance of grounds related duties.
Performs general duties such as rubbish removal, watering, grass cutting, pruning and trimming all trees and shrubs, and other manual duties in order to maintain the District grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
Plows, shovels and/or sands steps, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots as appropriate.
With the assistance of the Head Custodians, supervises and assigns custodial staff during snow removal and lawn-mowing efforts.
Performs a regularly scheduled preventive maintenance program for all grounds equipment.
Assists the Business Administrator in the implementation of an environmentally friendly fertilization and herbicide program.
Maintains inventory of grounds supplies and equipment.
Maintains records on all operational and maintenance activities.
Provides courier service as needed.
Accept other duties as assigned by the Business Administrator or his/her designee.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for employment as a groundskeeper, a person shall demonstrate the knowledge, skills, leadership, and experience necessary to supervise staff effectively.

The person must be able to operate, maintain, and make adjustments to various types of equipment, as needed.
He/she must also have the ability to pass a written and physical test, as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
He/she is required to perform duties within the expectations of all district requirements and school committee policies.
He/she must understand proper procedures, handbook rules, school schedules, (i.
e.
, practice times, game times both home and away) and maintain confidentiality with regard to students and staff.
He/she must also be available for duties on some Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and evenings.
Moreover, the individual must be adaptable to working around children and possess skills for maintaining the grounds in a manner acceptable to the general health and safety standards of the district.

school committee policies and procedures, school public relations, the role of public schools in the community, safe operation of mechanical equipment, and the importance of developing constructive working relationships with supervisors, fellow workers, students, the general public and visitors to the school.
Educational Requirements, Credentials, and Licenses:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Two years or equivalent experience in the grounds keeping field.
Prior leadership experience.
Basic computer knowledge, knowledge of grounds layouts, irrigation systems, and athletic fields.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.
